Shepherd’s Care Foundation offers many different ways to get involved, with opportunities for all interests and experience. We provide professional training and dedicated volunteer support, and we have opportunities available at all of our locations.

Our Recreation Assistants enrich our resident’s lives by providing companionship and enabling them to participate in desired activities and/or outings. Volunteer Porters will be responsible for safely assisting with transporting resident in wheel chair to and from pre-determined locations.
Recreation Assistants will assist staff in the delivery of activities and programs as required. 1:1 Companions will visit only specified residents onsite according to needs and as scheduled by SCF staff. May include accompanying resident to off-site locations and/ or providing companionship at events and/or programs as requested by SCF Staff.
To provide companionship to residents and implement programming that presents a variety of activities which may include motor activities, puzzles, stories, and sensory-based engagement. Position may also include, portering residents, and assisting residents with exercises as directed by SCF staff.
Job Description/Responsibilities: With the support from the Occupational Therapist and SCF staff, the Volunteer will be responsible for implementing a 1:1 program with provided materials that engage resident for positive outcomes. Volunteer will also support PT program in the gym as directed by SCF OT staff.
NOTE: This Position requires the use of the volunteers own dog which must comply with the standards of a program deemed recognized by SCF.
SCF has forged a relationship with a recognized organization that offers free Pet Therapy training for your pet if it qualifies according to their program guidelines. Reports to: Recreation Coordinator Purpose: Studies have shown that holding or petting an animal helps lower blood pressure, release strains and tension, as well as ease feelings of loneliness and depression.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Volunteers/ owners of Pet Therapy animals will visit only specified residents onsite according to needs and as scheduled by SCF staff and/or provide supervision for safe resident interaction with the pet therapy animal. Volunteer is responsible for all clean up of animal “messes”.
Purpose: To provide residents with a reading partner to enhance the experience of reading and build intergeneration relationships.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Volunteer will provide choices of books from library cart and will sit with resident and/or read to resident for up to 30 minutes.
Volunteer Position Title: ASL Conversation Companion Reports to: Recreation Therapist (#1) Purpose: Resident has language barrier but understands some ASL. Resident would benefit from practicing ASL for longer periods of time with individual fluent in ASL for conversation and friendship.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Volunteer will be responsible for safely assisting resident to 7th floor area for coffee and conversation. Resident is ambulatory. The focus will be on spending time in ASL conversation
Volunteer Position: Mealtime Companion Reports to: Rec Therapist (Direction from RN) Purpose: Enhance the safety and enjoyment of the mealtime experience of residents by assisting with feeding of daily meals to residents with low level feeding assistance needs only.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Responsibilities range from keeping residents company and encouraging them during the meal to feeding those with low level feeding assistance needs who cannot feed themselves.
Volunteer Position Title: Hymn Sing Leader Reports to: Pastor / Pastoral Care Assistant Purpose: To maintain resident’s love for hymns; increase fellowship with like minded residents, to find encouragement and joy in music, to be stimulated by the Christian spiritual support provided.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Working in conjunction with the Pastoral Care Assistant, the Volunteer will plan and execute the hymn sing program This will include; providing an opening prayer, leading hymn singing, provide devotional reading between songs, and a closing prayer.
Volunteer Position Title: Walking Companion- Millwoods - Recreation Reports to: Samie – Wellness Facilitator Purpose: To assist the Wellness Facilitator with providing safety measures which will enable residents to participate in a walking group to enjoy the outdoors in the community.
Job Description/Responsibilities: The volunteer will accompany the Wellness Facilitator and the residents on an outdoor walk within the community. The volunteer will walk at the back of the group to ensure that residents are safe during the walk and communicate with the Wellness Facilitator to ensure accidents are minimized. The volunteer will not be responsible for giving first aid or assisting residents if an accident occurs during the walk. Positive conversation and interaction with residents is required for the purpose of encouragement of walking and positive outcomes of the program.

Volunteer Position Title: Pastoral Visitation Assistant Reports to: Pastor Purpose: To provide Christian based conversation and fellowship when requested by a resident.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Fellowship may include reading Scripture, singing Hymns, and praying together.
Volunteer Position Title: Computer Assistant - Data Entry, Filing and Computer Graphics Reports to: Judy Miller Purpose: In the reorganization of the Volunteering process, the Coordinator of Volunteers, is requiring assistance with data entry, filing, input with computer programing, and graphics.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Volunteer will be responsible for assisting Volunteer Coordinator with the implementing of a new computer software as well as creating computer graphic materials for volunteer promotional events.
Volunteer Position Title: Translation Services Volunteer Position. Reports to: Recreation or Rehab Staff Purpose: Residents require assistance with translating language in situations where a better understanding can be obtained through translation from English to their birth language.
Job Description/Responsibilities: Volunteer will be responsible to accurately translate information as required from English to the required language.
Volunteer Position Title: Recreation Bus Outing Companion Reports to: Samie - Rec Coordinator Purpose: The residents require assistance with safe transporting from one location to another in their walker

Volunteer will provide companionship and, if desired by the resident, conversation.
