Research Projects

As part of our strategic direction to focus on quality and excellence, Shepherd’s Care is exploring opportunities for involvement in research activities.  By partnering with the academic community we contribute to society's overall knowledge of care-related issues and to improving quality of care. Another advantage is that our staff are exposed to cutting-edge work in evidence-informed practice.

Shepherd’s Care is increasingly being approached by university-based researchers to participate on research teams and to be research sites.  Our reputation for being a leader in Aging in Place, and being open to research partnerships, is growing rapidly and resulting in this increase in opportunities.

Currently, Shepherd’s Care is involved in twelve research projects totaling over ten million dollars in research grant funding.  These funds are held by the academic researchers who administer the grants.  The funding supports some of our staff time when they assist in providing data for these studies.

Some of our current research project topics include:

  • using Resident Assessment information for quality improvement,
  • how the culture of organizations impacts the use of best practice evidence to improve care,
  • coaching staff,
  • looking at the needs of residents with Alzheimers disease in assisted living and long term care,
  • examining the experience of long term care residents in transfers to and from emergency departments,
  • best practices in technology in supportive housing and assisted living,
  • best practices in care of persons with dementia in assisted living,  and
  • health care aide work satisfaction and quality of care.
