Outbreak Notice for 2nd Floor at MWCC

Great news! Public Health has cleared the Millwoods Care Centre restrictions effective 12:15pm today.

  • 2ND Floor still has 1 ill resident under isolation.
  • Staffs with new symptoms have to remain off work for minimum 5 days or until better.
  • Heightened cleaning will remain in place this week per Public Health directions. 
  • All Recreation/Rehab/Pastoral activities can resume effective immediately.

  • All Recreation programming to remain cancelled up to & including Jan 20th, 2019.
  • We currently have 5 residents with  ILI symptoms (no new case in last 24 hours)
  • To date, 11 staff presented with case defining ILI symptoms and off work .All staff who are working either have Influenza vaccine or started on Tami flu Prophylaxis.  
  • All Outbreak Management precautions are in place including enhanced environmental and equipment cleaning and disinfection throughout facility.

  • We currently have 5 residents with  ILI symptoms (2 new case in last 48 hours)
  • To Date, 9 staff presented with case defining ILI symptoms and off work .All staff who are working either have Influenza vaccine or started on Tami flu Prophylaxis.  
  • All Outbreak Management precautions are in place including enhanced environmental and equipment cleaning and disinfection throughout facility.

  • We currently have 3 residents with  ILI (Influenza-like) symptoms (No new case in last 24 hours )
  • To date, 5 staff presented with case-defining ILI symptoms and off work. All staff who are working either have Influenza vaccine or started on Tami flu Prophylaxis.  
  • AHS FL Infection-Prevention Control walkthrough was completed today with our AHS FL IPC Rep. – A few recommendations were received and are already implemented .
  • All Outbreak Management precautions are in place including enhanced environmental and equipment cleaning and disinfection throughout facility.

(1/06/20, 8:14 a.m.):

  A quick update with regards to Respiratory outbreak (ILI) at Millwoods Care Centre (Long-Term Care):

  • All Recreation programming to remain cancelled up to and including Jan 10th, 2020
  • We currently have 3 residents with  ILI symptoms (1 new case in last 24 hours)
  • To Date, 4 staff presented with case defining ILI symptoms and off work. All staff who are working either have Influenza vaccine or started on Tamiflu Prophylaxis.  
  • Both Nasopharyngeal swabs collected came positive for Influenza A.
  • All Outbreak Management precautions are in place including enhanced environmental and equipment cleaning and disinfection throughout facility.

(11:56 a.m., 1/2/20): MWCC has 2 residents on 2nd floor meeting AHS case and outbreak definition of ILI (Influenza-like Illness). As per direction of Public Health, facility-wide outbreak has been confirmed and all infection control strategies have been implemented. 

  • All recreation activities /pastoral activities are cancelled until further notice.
  • Standard AHS Communication signage indicating outbreak placed in all designated locations.
  • Symptomatic residents have been placed on additional precautions as per Policy & Procedure Guidelines.
  • Routine infection prevention and control practices continue.
  • Appropriate specimen has been collected to sent to the provincial lab to determine the pathogen.
  • Cohort the staff until further notice.
