In 2006 Shepherd’s Care completed renovations on a former convent to create a cozy affordable supportive living (SL4-D) community for 30 people. These suites serve people diagnosed with mid-stage dementia who require a safe and secure environment. Programming is specific to the needs of the residents, with a focus on quality-of-life and person-centred care with specially trained staff who understand the needs of those with dementia.
Admission is through an assessment by Alberta Health Services, which funds the health care services provided. Health services include 24-hour Licensed Practical Nursing, care attendants, on-call Registered Nurse, and recreation. Rehabilitation therapy and other health services are coordinated through Alberta Health Services. Shepherd’s Care provides pastoral care services to all residents.
Residents pay an accommodation charge which covers their room and board, housekeeping and laundry, and building maintenance costs. All rooms are private accommodation.
“I have never met such a kind and compassionate group of people. There is never an unkind word spoken.” – Greenfield family member
