Designated Assisted Living Program

Our Designated Assisted Living (DAL) program combines accommodation services with care and supports for the resident. Entry into this type of supportive living is based on an assessment of resident needs by the regional health authority. Within the city of Edmonton, information regarding these services can be found at (780) 496-1300. To access these services in the Barrhead area, please call (780) 674-4249.

Within this setting, residents have access to a Licensed Practical Nurse and personal care services on-site 24 hours per day. A client care coordinator from the regional health authority is responsible for ensuring that the care needs of the resident are identified and are being met. This is a collaborative effort with the resident and their family and also the site supervisor, and the care team. The plan of care is updated regularly based on resident needs and preferences using a person centered approach to the provision of care. Care under this level of support is funded at approximately two hours per 24 hrs; or three hours per 24hrs for enhanced or safe living DAL.

Under this arrangement, all of the resident’s meals, snacks, light housekeeping, and recreational activities, and other amenities are provided in the monthly rental fee paid by the resident. This fee is regulated by the regional health authority and care of the resident is funded by the regional health authority.

Residents are responsible for providing their own suite furnishings including bed, linens, and toiletries. Personal laundry services are available at a nominal monthly fee. Residents are responsible for full payment of their own medications and are free to use a pharmacy of their own choice.

A number of private service providers and vendors also bring additional service offerings in-house to our residents at designated locations within most of our buildings. Some of the available service providers include physician services, foot care, hearing aide practitioner, and hairdressing services.

All residents are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy the building activities and out-trips as published monthly in our large-print recreation calendar. All of our buildings offer frequent excursions to shopping and other destinations such as local attractions. A number of devotional based activities and services are offered weekly in several different faiths. This offering is subject to change however depending on each specific site.

If you have any questions regarding any of our Designated Assisted Living options, please contact our Director of Supportive Living at (780) 447-3840.
