Reporting to the Vice President of Mission Effectiveness, the Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all volunteer activities, assisting in recruitment, screening and selection of volunteers and collaborating with departments to match voluntary services to departmental needs.   The successful candidate will place high value on relationship-building as there is extensive involvement with volunteers, residents and family/visitors.  Additionally, a sound knowledge of clerical procedures, excellent customer service and excellent organizational skills are required to be successful in this role. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordination:

  • Coordinates the ongoing recruitment, screening, interviewing, orientation, developing assignments and education of volunteers.
  • Participates in Mission Effectiveness team and other departments (Recreation, Pastoral Care, Community Relations) as required.
  • Engages with care staff and strategizes to guarantee best plan to connect all volunteer services to ensure best department fit.
  • Maintains various directories.
  • Provides ongoing encouragement, support, recognition and guidance to volunteers.
  • Collaborates in the coordination of volunteer recognition events.
  • Keeps proper and confidential records and statistics.
  • Attends meetings and takes minutes.
  • Decorates for various holidays.

Administration:

  • Processes a variety of correspondence and performs other related clerical functions as required.
  • Manages email account by forwarding or responding to in-coming emails.
  • Types, copies and distributes letters, reports, minutes and memorandums as assigned by the Vice President of Mission Effectiveness. 
  • Drafts up new tables, forms and memos that may be required to communicate information to residents or staff
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Human Resources Certificate or Diploma or
  • Business Administration  Diploma 

Experience

  • Three years experience in a Volunteer Coordinator role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience working with the elderly, chronically ill or the disabled is an asset.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good written/verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in scheduling is considered an asset.
