Unit Clerk Positions


Shepherd’s Care Foundation Millwoods is looking for Unit Clerk  - which are combined clerical / receptionist / scheduling position that coordinates the day to day activities of the nursing unit and reports to the Program Manager.  The Unit Clerk provides support, advocacy and choice to Residents and their families to ensure the highest quality of person centered care achievable within the mission, vision, values, and behavior standards of Shepherds Care Foundation.  The Unit Clerk position demonstrates ongoing competency utilizing knowledge, skill, judgement and evidence based practice in caring for the older adult.  The Unit Clerk ensure compliance with continuing care health service standards, employment and safety-related statues, legislation, codes, and regulations as well as SCF policies.

As a Certified HCA you will collaborate with team members to ensure resident care is delivered in a way that embodies person centered care and acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy and spirituality in a Long Term Care Unit.


  • Graduate from a recognized Unit Clerk course or training program with a strong knowledge of medical terminology.  Equivalent combinations of education or experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs is essential.  Other computer software applications will be an asset.
  • Experience with staff schedules and rotations will be an asset.
  • Ability to read and write fluently in the English language.
  • Experience working with the geriatric population, chronically ill, cognitively impaired or the disabled would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, teamwork, and customer service relevant to the role.
  • Strong organizational skills with precise attention to detail are required in this position
    Awareness of accident and injury prevention, hazard identification and control; adherence to safe work practices and procedures is essential in this position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to person-centered care
  • Recognize, interpret and respond to non-verbal cues
  • Have strong time management and advocacy skills, able to multi-task, exercise good judgement, strong collaboration and problem solving as part of a team
  • Have knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, normal development and behavior
  • Recognize the importance of personal wellness as it relates to seniors care.
  • Recognize, interpret and respond to non-verbal cues
  • Strong organizational skills, a high level of computer competency and accuracy, diligence in completing paperwork and forms
